MeditationHi S.R...
I try meditation on and off, i go through phases i think. it really depends what im trying to achieve.
I mostly use meditation if life gets a bit too stressfull, as life has a habit of doing so from time to time. Meditation works really well for this. helps to control your breathing, and slow the heart rate down, which is always good.
I find what works best for me, is bought guided meditation cd's. if i just put some soft music on, and try to do it myself, my mind tends to wonder too much, and before i know it, im thinking about alsorts of stuff, when im supposed to be switching off. with guided meditation, all i do is listen to the voice and the music together on the cd, and this is enough to keep me focused.

Hi Wiccan Warrior,
I believe it does take practice like anything else to beable to switch off from daily life, especially if stressful like it is in this day and age, thoughts do tend to wander but with practice at it I do believe you can get there. It took me years to clear my mind and just relax. It's best not to focus so much I feel cause you just lose the inner peace your trying to reach. I am speaking personally as we are all different, some people prefare guided meditation and some like myself just prefer to sit either in quietness or to relaxation music without the talking. It's like visualisation i find hard to hold the vision and then I end up stressed cause I have then lost what I was trying to visualise so what actually works best for me is to just chill out really. I also meditate with my eyes open as well as I find this alot easier, like staring into a candle flame. I think it's because I work with spirit and as soon as I shut my eyes I'm off hehe, and I see images all over the place, so personally speaking I prefare to keep my eyes open. It's all a matter of personal preferance as following 'the rules' so to speak tend to put me off I don't believe we need to follow any rules as such, well not strictly anyway but alot of people do believe this. Anyway that's another topic!
You sound as if you find meditating really easy? do you have any tips on this?
If so, I'm sure others (including myself) would love to hear them as I know that alot of people find it really difficult.

MeditationHi Stone Rainbow
I Guess i do find meditating fairly easy, i can only put that down to the fact that at a tender age of 46, i have been doing it on and off for 20years.
I find it helps with lots of things. helps to clear away the rubbish from your mind so you can think more clearly. so i do tend to turn to meditation in not so good times.
I think the biggest tip i can give about meditation, no matter what route you decide to take to achieve that state. Is this...
you have got to want to do it. You have got to see it as important.
It's no good if you (for instance) think to yourself, "i'll just get in the meditation before my favourite TV proggy comes on, as i wouldnt want to miss that".. You have to clear your mind completely, give yourself the mental space with no pressure of time.
That way you can totally relax, give yourself the time to go deep, without worrying about one scenario or the other, where you are mentally watching the clock.
The best thing about meditation is the way it gets rid of time, and by that i mean, it can make half an hour seem like 5mins. So toget the best from meditation, time has'nt to be important to you for a little while.
Hope that makes sense
